Frequently Asked Questions…

My practice is primarily a face-to-face service, however I do offer online counselling sessions to Adult Adoptees only.

I find working in person more engaging and powerful as we can access the full range of my services.

Please ensure you are aware of driving times to get to the studio from your location.

A referral from a doctor or other professional is not necessary for Counselling & Psychotherapy as I do not work within the medical system or access the Mental Health Care Plan. What this means for you is that you do not need to get a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP and compromise confidentiality. This gives you peace of mind that seeing a counsellor/psychotherapist will not impact your insurance or career prospects in any way. I wholeheartedly respect your right to confidentiality.

You can claim a rebate for sessions with me if you have the appropriate extras cover in your private health insurance. I offer provider numbers for BUPA, Medibank Private, ARHG, Police Health Fund, Emergency Services Health, Pheonix Health, GMHBA, Teachers Union Health, AIA and Westfund.

As I work outside of the medical model, a Mental Health Care Plan is not necessary to access my services.

If you have a mental health diagnosis it may be important for you to also be engaged with a Psychologist, and a Psychiatrist if you are taking medication.

I will ask you to fill out a Consent to Release Information Form if this is the case, so that I have your permission to contact other professionals during the course of our work together.

All Adult Counselling & Psychotherapy sessions go for 60 – 75 mins.

All Child Counselling sessions go for 60 mins.

Please arrive on time to make the most of our time together.

Whilst I understand that sometimes life emergencies happen, I request 48 hours notice so that I can offer your appointment time to someone else.

Less than 48 hours notice will require full payment of fees as I have allocated this time especially for you.

My ‘Safe Haven Studio’ is located in Diddillibah on the Sunshine Coast, Qld.

There is ample street parking and you will be notified of the address once an initial appointment is made.

For Adults, I usually recommend fortnightly sessions and sticking with a consistent time that suits you.  I recommend booking in 6 sessions, as this would give you support over 12 weeks. This is a gentle way to enter into meaningful therapeutic work and will provide consistent support for your nervous system to gain capacity for depth psychotherapy.  This is also supportive for those who have something specific they want to address in a short space of time (3 months).

For Children, weekly or fortnightly sessions are advised to maintain consistency and progress.

You can find the Code of Ethics from the Australian Counselling Association of which I am a Level 4 Member HERE.
